5.5 Mil Black Industrial Nitrile Gloves

The everyday shop workhorse. Enough nitrile film to shrug off oils, fasteners and a full shift on the line — with the dexterity and cost-per-box that make it the gauge most crews reach for first. Textured fingertips, powder-free, S through XXL.

Pick the gauge, not the guess

Thickness is the single decision that drives cost, dexterity and how long a glove survives the task. Here is the full TruGlove range — tap any gauge to compare.

Built for the work

The gauge that lives on the bench

01

Everyday durability

The daily driver. Stands up to oils, fasteners and general shop abuse across a full shift — fewer changeouts than a 4 mil, lower cost per box than a 6.5.

02

Textured fingertips

Micro-roughened grip pattern holds on oily and wet surfaces, so techs stop wiping down parts just to get purchase.

03

Powder-free, latex-free

No cornstarch residue on finished surfaces and no natural rubber proteins — safe to standardize across a mixed crew.

04

Black hides the mess

Grease, dye and shop grime do not show, so gloves stay in service on appearance instead of getting tossed early.

Product detail

The gauge most shops buy by the pallet

If the 6.5 mil is the glove you grab for sharp edges and heavy tear risk, the 5.5 mil is the one that lives on the bench. It is the everyday industrial gauge — thick enough to finish real work without blowing out on a fastener, thin enough that a tech keeps it on for fine assembly and diagnostics. For most shops it is the highest-volume line item in the whole glove program.

It is a fully synthetic nitrile film, so there is no natural rubber latex and no Type I allergy exposure across your workforce. Powder-free means no cornstarch transferring onto paint, glass, food-contact tooling or a customer's interior trim. The ambidextrous, beaded-cuff construction donates fast from a 100-count dispenser box and rolls off cleanly at the wrist.

Where it performs

This is the gauge that automotive service, MRO, warehouse and industrial janitorial teams standardize on for day-in, day-out use. It handles common shop chemistry — brake cleaner overspray, degreasers, cutting fluids, adhesives, dyes and diluted sanitizers — for the short-duration, incidental splash contact that makes up most real-world glove use.

When the job turns to sharp edges, threaded fasteners or higher tear risk, step up to the 6.5 mil or 8.5 mil heavy-duty nitrile. For extended immersion or aggressive solvents, check the breakthrough data for your specific chemistry and move to a reusable chemical-resistant glove.

Questions

Before you order

How thick is a 5.5 mil nitrile glove, really?
A mil is one thousandth of an inch, so 5.5 mil is roughly 0.14 mm at the palm. A standard exam glove runs 4 mil and a heavy-duty industrial glove runs 8 mil or more. The 5.5 mil is the everyday industrial middle — more protection than an exam glove, more dexterity and lower cost than a 6.5 or 8.5.
Should I choose 5.5 or 6.5 mil?
Choose the 5.5 mil for everyday, high-volume shop and MRO work where dexterity and cost per box matter most. Step up to the 6.5 mil when the task involves sharp edges, threaded fasteners or higher tear risk.
Can I use these for food handling?
These are specified as industrial grade. If food contact is the requirement, use a TruGlove product carrying the Food Safe designation — the 4 mil blue nitrile, the vinyl range or the TPE food-service glove.
Are they suitable for medical or exam use?
No. This SKU family is industrial grade and is not marketed for patient care. For exam-grade protection, see the 4 mil blue nitrile or the powder-free latex line.
What chemicals do they resist?
Nitrile handles oils, greases, fuels, many solvents and common shop chemistry well for incidental splash contact. It is not a substitute for a rated chemical-resistant glove during extended immersion. Contact us with your specific chemistry and we will confirm suitability.
What is the minimum order?
Pricing starts at case quantity — 1,000 gloves, or 900 for XXL, which packs 90 per box. Volume, pallet and standing-order pricing is quoted on request.
Do you private label?
Yes. We supply custom colors, thicknesses, cuff lengths and your own box art for volume buyers. Include the details in your quote request.
